Community Workshop

Workshop 4: Capital Gains on Home and Camp

Property often carries both financial and emotional weight. This workshop explains capital gains that may arise when a home or camp changes hands at death. We cover the principal residence exemption, capital gains on secondary property, and the concept of deemed disposition in accessible terms. We also discuss the practical and relational tensions that can emerge when families inherit shared property, and why early planning and documentation matter.

The session is designed to be respectful, plain-language, and practical, with time for questions throughout. You are encouraged to bring a notebook and to engage at your own pace. You are not required to share personal details, and you are not expected to decide anything during the session.
